Dad's birthday

So one of the coolest men in my life (my Padre) has a birthday coming up- this Saturday to be exact! And seeing as I doubt he could find my blog via Google if his life depended on it (he can barely find solitaire  on their computer), I feel safe telling the internet what he will be getting for his birthday ^_^

First on the list:

Dr Mario and Tetris was mine and my parents' ultimate favorite game on Super Nintendo.
This is not Dr Mario and Tetris. However, they loved Puzzle League also. Remembering this (and having just bought my father a DS for Christmas last year), I felt blown away by the awesomeness of stumbling upon this in our local Power Gamer. Priced at $17, I immediately bought it. If you would like a copy of your own they are priced around $15 (used) on Amazon.

And Okami.
Now let me tell you. The graphics in this game will rock your socks. HOWEVER, the opening intro will take forever and a day. I've only gotten to the 3rd level but really love the storyline and the whole idea behind it. Sometimes I have issues forcing the wii remote to do what i want it to do, but that's nothing new. If you would like to buy it, skip over to Amazon where it costs less than $20 normally (FAR less then I paid in store).

Now I may possibly also bake my father these awesome cupcakes.
But I shall have to talk about those later as photos of those are at home on my other computer.
And everyone loves photos.

Mother's Day gift ideas

Seeing as how Mother's Day is kind of around the corner, I figured I should look into some things my 2 moms would like (2 moms being my actual mom and my new mom in law).
Anywho, here's what I came up with:

****** If you happen to be my mom or my husbands mom, please stop reading now and skip this post until 5/10/10. Thank you for your cooperation. ***********

note: these lovelies are not for sale but there is a recipe for them here!
another note: her blog is awesome, check it out.

note: while these lovelies cost a whopping $30 (for TWELVE) and are far more cost efficient to make at home, mine never look this pretty. If you are too lazy to make them pretty but still want these for your mum you can buy them here.

Almost all ladies love flowers and I'm certain most moms are included in that. These lovelies are lilacs (Syringa Prairie Petite to be exact) and sadly currently sold out. However you can buy similar plants from here for about $30.

another uber simple but easy to personalize gift:
custom mousepads from here for about $10 :)

I don't know how many of you ever had parents that did this but growing up my parents didn't spend too much money on birthday's or Christmas... heck they don't do that now either :) anywho, for many years I'd get these homemade coupons (good for one free trip to the ice rink, good for one free movie of your choice to watch with mom and dad, good for one free breakfast in bed) and loved them - these are coupons specifically for moms! Priced at $9 from here, I think these are adorable.

This one made me laugh too much to keep to myself. It's priced at $4.50.
Check here to see the inside and to order.

And Happy (almost) Mother's Day!

update

Yeah. So I've been a weee bit absent lately. I know. Here's what's been happening in the last few months:

We moved.
WE GOT MARRIED :-D
We went to the aquarium about 4 times (love that place).

We finally started having guests over often (which pretty much means I spend early Saturday morning cleaning and the rest of the day feeding Kevin and his friends pizza, yoo-hoos and coke while playing DnD for the next 5 hours- but I don't mind- in fact, I kind of love it).

Both our Moms have been in and out of the hospital a lot lately. At the moment we're still not sure if his Mum will be home for Easter. I'm worried but I take comfort in the fabulous things I've heard about Kernan's and that she's much closer to us now than before.

I took up baking again. Since the beginning of the month, I've made cookies, bread, 2 different kinds of muffins (will post recipes later) and am searching for a not so classic chocolate cupcake recipe.

We recently had our church's first Seder :)

And our Easter Egg Hunt!

Yeah. So.
Happy Tuesday!

happy days

Found these lovelies while surfing recently:

Gives Me Hope - this site can always make me feel better when I'm feeling bluish.

My Life is Average - this site is so much more than average and reading it always makes me giggle.

Daily Squee - didn't really think I'd "squee" while reading this blog, but I totally did and so will you.

hope this little bit of happiness makes your Monday better!

And yeah those are my husband's feet in the top corner :)

^_^ we spent our honeymoon at home playing visitor downtown and around the harbor, this pretty sight greeted us early one morning at the harbor.

:) and this one too, though I'm not entirely sure why the sidewalk looks wavyish

^ these are the fishies we saw at the Aquarium (aqua.org -ever come into town, go because it's totally worth it) and some random reflections in the glass.

^ the 3 finned turtle at the Aquarium, he was awesome! (apparently I found the turtles and sting rays the most interesting creatures i the entire place, aside from Kevin of course! hehe)

hehe evil veggie that we encountered while making diner one night recently.
It amused me, I figured I'd share it.

still in honeymoon phase

It's hard to believe I'm actually MARRIED!

Lead up to the big day was, well, chaotic. I only worked (at my real job) a day and 1/2 the week leading up to the wedding but boy did a lot happen that week. We planned to moved on that Friday and Kevin came downtown early in the week, so that we could hang out and relax downtown some. I called the leasing office to ask if someone needed to be there for BGE to set up the electric (no one did) and got some bad news.

They informed me that they were just about to call me (!) and that there was a slight issue (at this point my gut felt full of sand) and our apartment unfortunately was not ready for move in. But not to worry (what? me? worry? HA) that they had another apartment on hold for us in another complex barely a mile away, held by the same company. I might not have minded so much if I didn't recognize the place as an apartment Kevin and I considered then promptly forgot about after reading the reviews. The alternate apartment was (according to the website) 100 sq feet SMALLER than the apartment we had already signed for, in a worse neighborhood and had received nearly a 15% lower rating then our apartment. I nearly had a melt down on the phone at my desk in the lobby. yeah. it was bad.

Thankfully, just as I'm about to burst into tears of frustration and hopelessness, Kevin got off the elevator and calms me down and I hang up on the woman. After we chatted some and he called his dad for advice, he called back again, being a bit more rational and politely letting them know that the situation was unacceptable and if we could not meet a compromise that we would be contacting a lawyer- after that of course, they were much more helpful.

In the end, we were allowed to move in on Friday, but not till noon. When Kevin made it to the office (still unsure how he beat us there) he was informed that we had never paid rent. Of course, at this point, my head *explodes*. My father and I had to rush to the liquor store for a money order (apparently the only kind of payment they accept other than online payments). I would not have minded paying rent except for the fact that we had been in contact with the office nearly EVERY DAY for 2 weeks and they waited till MOVE IN DAY to tell us this?! Yeah. I was pretty ticked.

BUT... it's all over now. Things still make me angry but they did play nice and bought us a new dishwasher (the old one sounded like a dying elephant) and have since been fairly helpful and polite. Let's just hope it lasts.
